Althoughhisasattralylotioime,hisessayachievedfameastheclear,well-reasoifiofaizeinganimmoralpolicyofhisgover.Assuch,CivilDisobediencebefluentialmaoforsubsequentantirotestersaerssuchasMohandasK.GandhiandDr.MartinLutherKing,Jr.
Inlateryearshisiraalismwaned,andhebecameadedicatedabolitionist.Hismaingsandrecordsofhiswanderingsinada,Maine,andCapeCoddisplaythemiuralist.Afterhisdeathhiscollectedwritingswerepublishedin20volumes,aiioappearinprint.
Walden(1854)isbasedowoyears(1845-1847)hespentlivinginabesideond,nearassachusetts,anddescribeshissimplewayoflife,aloionsonnatureahasbeeaclassiviros,idadvoplelife,whileembodyiofthetracreed.
